Is it just me, or does it seem that more and more crimes committed by youth are surfacing? I know many of you can think back and recall a simpler time. Here are some things that I think can get us back to the good ol' days

1. Support the arts---Art by a borrowed definition is something that uplifts society. It is an individual or group of individuals working together to take an interpretation of time and make it tangible in the form of film, print, canvas. And no, TV and the computers are NOT art but mainly tools that can be used. How you use them is up to you.
2. Don't give me that evil look when I silence your kid in the grocery aisle after he has just thrown a fit and kicked you in the shins in order to get his own way. You and I are part of a community, and it is important that your kid sees and understands that. It will keep him in check, it will give him perspective and objectivity, and he will always know that he has support when he needs it.
3. The Jones' are an FN myth! Pull your head out of your ass. Both parents wouldn't have to work if you had less things. Remember, a big house just means more to clean and weaker sibling connections. Privacy is important, but the line should be drawn at the door mat of the front door, not at the entrance to each room of the house. Living economically is both smart and healthy, your kids will grow up to be better people and maybe they won't kill you before they graduate junior high.
4. Your kids are smart and intuitive, they will very quickly pick up on the fact that you naturally feel they are a living extension of yourself. This objectifies them so avoid it at all costs. With today's candid talk of abortion, assisted suicide, war, and stem cell research, they are already growing up with the ideology that humans are expendible for the "greater good". They certainly don't need more from you when they live in a time of file # ID's, passwords, and accounts. If you start to see barcodes or serial numbers tattooed on arms. GET OUT!
5. Debrief! The information is NOT bad, but it needs to be accompanied by discourse. Take them to any movie you want, get them to read any book they want, but be prepared. Set it up and discuss it, and BE EXCITED about the discussion. Show some FN effort. And for the love of Pete, timing is everything!
6. Talk with their teachers. Decide before the kids go running off to school what you expect your community teachers to be. Do you want them to teach your child or do you want them to parent your child. They most certainly can't do both and should be expected to; not for long hours, crappy money, and eating shit from your poorly parented kids all day. And don't even start complaining about teachers, none of you would last without your IBM, XBOX, DVD babysitters!

I'm taking a break to go walk my dog. Damn its a nice day. So chew on that for a while,

OggieOggiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00230507824777699060noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8489521880604516224.post-18432056038274149652007-10-12T00:56:00.000-07:002007-10-14T19:45:10.509-07:00The beauty of sadness...or lack thereofOn the most part I would think that I am a more a literal thinker than not. I'm the guy who laughs at inappropriate times and makes awkward moments seem more so. There is something so beautiful about the world and its language when you take it out of its sometimes all too popular context. Pulling words out of a book and looking at them without giving any thought to their relationship to each other or to the syntax that supports them. Tangible by-products.
On one occasion today, the phrase (and I use the term very loosely) [,Josh.] was brought to the forefront of the group and an idea was born. Regardless of what the idea was, the mere fact that something so abstract could lend to the development of an idea, is, quite frankly, one of the rare truths of why I exist!
On the second, possibly not so literal, but definitely in my opinion just as important occasion today, was a statement a friend made. Amidst our conversation about personal tragedy and both our inability to deal with the delivery of its news, he concluded that; the reason he was unable to deal with sad moments was because he was inexperienced with sadness in his life. What a wonderful thing to reflect on I figure!
With all the negativity that finds its way into our lives and all the complaining that we try to fight back, its still a comfort to know that there is, simply and literally put, more good than bad.

Happy Thoughts,

OggieOggiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00230507824777699060noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8489521880604516224.post-29325160716678303602007-10-04T12:59:00.000-07:002007-10-04T13:04:08.798-07:00Starbuck's GuerillasAn excellent feeling I have in my pocket.
A grand time to live.
My thoughts are no longer my own.
Actions;demonstrative.

Today's class was a great one. The brainstorming at the beginning was intense and a little much for my note taking style, but I managed.

How the creative slowly become convinced they are crazy.
It's amazing how social structure becomes so inevitably apparent in the survival of the mind. Is there a god complex? A misnomer. It is simply a creative complex determined by a finite perspective backed by a historical dynamic of human relationships and cause and effect. Everything is defineable. Does that mean nothing is a surprise? Possibly in the terms of infinity, but who's to know; and if there is someone who knows, who will be left to receive the tale? The vampire is a sad and lonely killer. For any excitement of the world that's left can never be shared and communicated. No process. No change. An eternity of every perspective creates a absolute perspective loss. The end is near to everyone and everything but the infinite.

Those pictures of Dubai were so impressive. Nimrod on top of the tower in defiance. He shouts incantations and sputters orders at the workers below. His goals are apparent; he no longer will serve the intangible; He does not believe; He is the leader of the LOST.

pollution = noise
visual noise
audio noise
the noise of the conscience and the catholic upbringing
CATHOLIC NOISE

Catholic Noise = guilt
Vampire
Infinity
Period piece
Spanning generations
parallel story lines

I just told the girl at starbuck's that they should change the ballast in the bathroom light fixture
in the event that someone has a seizure with their pants down. She looked at me and laughed. I thought I was
being serious.

I turned my back for a 5 minutes to talk to this girl about designing a tattoo and somebody swiped my coffee! I love the ghetto for its absurdity. I just spent $15.00 on 3 lattes. One of which is being enjoyed, as I type, by someone who clearly deserves it. Ha. They left behind a cell phone, an MD player, a laptop, and a backpack. The irony in this story is sickening. Excuse me while I wipe this egg off.

The inspiration has subsided for the time being. Tonight I will think of things. A maybe get some actual work done.Oggiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00230507824777699060noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8489521880604516224.post-570063325542278452007-09-07T19:00:00.000-07:002007-09-07T19:56:51.983-07:00Cosmic Joke The many things that plague our existence. Not the things we fear per se, but rather those particular things that makes tweak our heads to the side and give it a little scratch. Idioms like "The grass is always greener on the other side", "becareful what you wish for". Realizations that you just became the thing you've been pushing against for a better part of your life. All this time you've been trying to prevent dying of cancer only to find out that the medicine, vitamins, and organic food you've been choking down are actually the cause. It's a funny thing; when you finally realize it, you know you should be upset or angry at the "unfairness" of it all, but all you can do is just laugh. It's almost euphoric.Oggiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00230507824777699060noreply@blogger.com0
